The Golden Rule

Do: Make sure you always (and we mean always) remove your makeup before hitting the sheets. The skin needs to breathe overnight. And makeup prevents that, as leaving it on overnight clogs the pores which may cause blemishes and/or blackheads. Don’t possess a makeup remover? Just put some olive oil on a cotton pad and gently massage the oil onto your face to get rid of the makeup and dirt.


Don’t: Forget that exfoliation is indispensable. At least once or twice a week, exfoliate your skin to remove the layers of dead skin, sure to leave you with a healthy glow and brighter skin.


Know your skin type


We all have very different skin, whether oily, dry, sensitive or combination you need a product that’s just right for you and your unique skin. Here are a few helpful hints to know your skin type:


  • Oily: Your pores usually appear larger and you never leave home without blotting papers

  • Dry: Skin often feels tight and you sometimes notice small red, flaky patches

  • Sensitive: Your skin is easily irritated leaving it feeling itchy and red

  • Combination: You’ve got different sized pores in different areas. Some areas are oily, and some are dry

Once you’ve got to grips with your skin type its time to find the right products for you. It can take a few attempts, so test out a few products with some samples.


H2O to The Rescue


Do: Hydrate yourself. Drink lots of water daily, at least 8 glasses if not more. Also, eats fruits and vegetables that have a high-water content such as watermelon, cucumber, orange, strawberry and grapefruit


Don’t: Ignore rose water. It helps prevent and reduce eye puffiness in the morning, maintains pH balance and naturally hydrates your skin if you spritz it on during the day.


Apply moisturizer after cleaning


Cleansing your skin is a great start, but without moisturizing it directly after, you’re missing a super simple, vital step. When you apply moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp post-cleanse, you’re able to seal in that moisture to help promote all-day hydration. So, cleanse then moisturize. Just think of it as a non-negotiable two-step process.


Avoid Touching your face


Our fingers are in constantly contact with keyboards, money and handrails to name a few, all of which are usually coated in bacteria. By touching your face, this can transfer viruses and allergens to your skin as well as excess bacteria and oil which can cause inflammation, blemishes, clogged pores and break outs. To put it simply, stop touching the face – your skin will thank you for it


Don’t neglect your neck and chest.


Most of us are guilty of stopping our skincare routine as soon as we hit our chin. And our neglected neck and chest take vengeance by wrinkling, sagging, and displaying dark spots that beg to be hidden by a turtleneck. Use the same products as you would on your face but start lightly (every other day) when applying active ingredients like retinols or acids since they may cause some initial irritation.


Don’t lick your lips.


If you have dry lips, it can be tempting to want to lick them in an attempt to find some relief. But this will only lead to increased dryness, so try grabbing a gentle lip scrub instead. An exfoliant or lip scrub can help gently remove any dry skin particles. Follow with your favorite lip conditioner.


Manage Stress.


Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts. To encourage healthy skin, and a healthy state of mind, take steps each day to manage your stress level. Set reasonable limits, prioritize your to-do list and make time to do things you enjoy.


Don’t cover your breakouts, Treat them


Instead of popping your pimples or masking the problem with make-up made of toxins, make the switch to mineral make-up. Also, keep your skin moisturized with an oil- free moisturizer and use a gentle face scrub to keep the pores clear, blackheads and pimples at bay.
